Pandemonium è il titolo dell’ultimo EP di Tom Staar, uscito sull’etichetta inglese Moda Music il 22 Novembre 2010.
Contiene tre tracce: la suonatissima Pandemonium featuring Savage Skulls, It excites me e l’epica Klear.
Pandemonium è preceduto da altri due EP: Console e Heavy Artillery, entrambi usciti nel 2009 sempre su Moda.

Il primo di una serie di contenuti speciali in esclusiva per Beelicious: una breve intervista a Tom Staar, enjoy!
Ciao Tom, Beelicious ti da il benvenuto in Italia! Ci piacerebbe iniziare la nostra intervista parlando della tua storia musicale: cosa ha portato al passaggio dallo studio engineering a un tuo progetto da dj/producer?
Produco da circa 10 o 11 anni ormai, sia come tecnico del suono che per miei progetti personali sotto vari pseudonimi. Ho avuto una fase lunghissima di lavoro dove producevo pezzi per altri artisti, ma da un anno e mezzo circa ho deciso di dedicarmi di più ai miei progetti. Quando il marchio Moda ha iniziato a vedere la luce, ho pensato che fosse arrivato il momento giusto per partire con il mio progetto attuale come Tom Staar.
Perchè il casco e i riferimenti allo spazio?
Quando ho cominciato con il progetto Tom Staar volevo qualcosa di diverso per il mio MySpace rispetto alle normali grafiche e immagini di quando avevo iniziato a produrre. Decisi così di usare un personaggio dei cartoni animati e venir fuori con la storia di provenire da un altro pianeta. Mi piaceva molto l’idea di caratterizzare il mio personaggio con questi elementi, ma allo stesso tempo volevo rimanere me stesso e fu così che mi venne in mente l’idea di portare il casco. Ne ho uno con attaccate le cuffie che uso durante i miei sets nei grandi festival per dare più impatto visivo alla mia performance. Di sicuro il fatto di indossare il casco caratterizzerà fortemente i live shows che sto progettando per il futuro.
Qui in Italia rivolgiamo spesso il nostro sguardo verso la scena inglese. Ci racconti qualcosa al riguardo?
In questo momento la scena inglese è dominata dalla Dubstep! Ci sono produttori Dubstep che stanno lavorando anche nell’ambito Pop riscuotendo un enorme successo e supporto dalle radio, come per esempio Skream, Benga, i Magnetic Man e anche Katy B.
Quali sono gli artisti che segui di più in questo momento?
Attualmente durante i miei DJ set mi piace suonare i pezzi di Hey Today!, Beataucue, French Fries e Mumbai Science. Dal punto di vista del produttore i Chemical Brothers sono in cima alla mia classifica, le loro produzioni per me sono fantastiche! In questo momento, poi, ci sono tanti eccezionali rappers inglesi che stanno esordendo: per esempio Tinie Tempah, Devlin, Wretch32 e Professor Green stanno spaccando ora e sarei davvero interessato a lavorare con artisti come loro in futuro.
Parliamo ora di Moda Music. Come è nato tutto?
Ho messo sù Moda con Jaymo, Andy George e un altro nostro amico quattro anni fa iniziando come party in un club di Lincoln. Da allora, Moda è diventata un marchio nazionale che ci ha permesso di organizzare eventi in giro per il paese e anche ad Ibiza per due stagioni. In seguito abbiamo deciso che fosse logico, in quanto noi produttori, dar vita ad un’etichetta che facesse da vetrina alle nostre idee.
Il 2010 è finito. Che progetti hai per il 2011?
In primo luogo tengo davvero tanto a lavorare di più sulle mie produzioni e meno su quelle per altri artisti. Sono anche molto orgoglioso della crescita di Moda come marchio, sia per gli eventi che per l’etichetta; quest’anno uscirà la nostra prima compilation e non vedo l’ora che questo accada finalmente! Anche il mio live show è tra le prime cose che vorrei far partire quest’anno.

The first of a series of special exclusive features for Beelicious: a short interview with Tom Staar, enjoy!
Hi Tom, Beelicious welcomes you in Italy! We would like to start with some info about your musical story: from studio engineering to your own project. What led to this step?
I’ve been producing for around 10 or 11 years now, both as a studio engineer and also on my own projects under various guises. I had a long phase of doing work just for other people but decided about a year and half ago that I should get back to my own projects. With our Moda brand starting to take off I thought it was time to start my Tom Staar project.
What about the helmet and the interstellar link in your imagery?
When I began the Tom Staar project I wanted something different for my myspace rather than the normal stuff about when I began producing. I decided to use a cartoon character and came up with a story about being from another planet. I wanted to come up with a way of keeping some element of this but also be myself, thats when I came up with helmet idea. I’ve got it rigged up with headphones so at the big festival gigs i play wearing it to give my sets more visual impact. This is going to be a big feature of my forthcoming Live show.
Here in Italy we often look back to the Uk scene. Can you tell us about it?
Right now in the UK the Dubstep scene is huge! There are dubstep producers producing pop records and getting huge support on the radio over here right now, Skream, Benga, Magnetic Man and Katy B are leading the charge.
Who are the artists that you love the most?
For my DJ sets I’m loving stuff by Hey Today!, Beataucue, French Fries and Mumbai Science. From a producers point of view Chemical Brothers are top of my list, their stuff is amazing! There are some great rappers coming out of the UK at the moment too, Tinie Tempah, Devlin, Wretch32, and Professor Green are all smashing it right now, I’m really into the idea of working with artists like this in the future.
Let’s talk about Moda Music. How did it happened?
I set up Moda with Jaymo, Andy George and another friend four years ago originally just as a club night in Lincoln. Since then it’s grown into a national brand with us doing events all over the country and also Ibiza for two seasons. We decided that with us all producing music it was only logical to set up a lable as an outlet for our stuff.
2010 has ended. What are you looking forward to in 2011?
I’m really looking forward to working on my own stuff a lot more this year and less engineering for others. I’m also really excited about the growth of Moda as a brand, both events and the lable. We are releasing our first compilation this year which is something I cant wait to get out there. My Live show is something I am really looking forward to getting started on too.

Beelicious presenta l’ospite di Gennaio: l’inglesissimo e intergalattico Tom Staar!
In agguato dal profondo della galassia più remota, Tom ha spinto fino a noi il tipo di pezzi che fanno venir voglia di ballare e dimenarsi guidati da mosse incontrollabili. Fortunatamente per noi, c’è qualcuno che è riuscito a captare i suoi segnali e a mettersi in contatto con lui; stiamo parlando dei suoi colleghi di etichetta: Tom, infatti, è il terzo membro fondatore della label inglese Moda Music, diventato in breve tempo uno dei produttori Made in Uk più seguiti in tutto il mondo.
Tom ha affinato la sua tecnica lavorando in studio come tecnico del suono per diversi anni, dove produceva anche tracce per molti degli artisti più prolifici della musica dance. Ora, grazie al giusto allineamento dei pianeti, Tom è finalmente pronto per difendere le nostre umili piste da ballo con la sua gamma interstellare di munizioni sonore.
Con in mano tre EP usciti su Moda Music (l’ultimo Pandemonium, uscito il 6 Dicembre 2010) e remix per Fenech Soler, Crookers, Renee Fleming, Human Life, We Have Band, Basement Jaxx e l’ultimo Dancefloor per Shake Aletti, Tom ha da tempo iniziato a girare il mondo incendiando ogni sorta di dancefloor, da club che ospitano al massimo 500 persone a festival che ne accolgono 20mila.
Con l’approdare delle serate di Moda nei clubs di tutta Europa, l’etichetta è ormai sulla bocca di tutti e le produzioni di Tom viaggiano sulla stessa orbita.
A breve un nuovo capitolo si aprirà davanti a noi: il Tom Staar and Friends, un EP in collaborazione con Style Of Eye, Tony Senghore, Herve e Sam Obernik; nella cabina di pilotaggio si mormora che questo progetto farà letteralmente esplodere le charts!
A fare gli onori di casa sarà sempre Elisa Bee, mente e dj resident di Beelicious.
Questo party, secondo nella storia di Beelicious ma primo del 2011, è pronto ad accogliervi nel migliore dei modi con un’altra prima volta a Milano davvero imperdibile!

Beelicious proudly presents his January guest: the english and intergalactic artist Tom Staar!
Lurking deep in the galaxy he’s putting out the kind of tracks that just make you want to juke around the dancefloor with some downright skanky moves. Luckily for us, the clever people at Moda Music intercepted his signals and have been in contact with him: in fact Tom is the third member of Team Moda and he’s fast becoming one of the UK’s most gazed upon producers.
Working behind the scenes, Tom honed his skills as a studio engineer over a number of years, producing for some of Dance Music’s most prolific names. Now, as the moons align, Tom is finally ready to defend our humble dance floors with his own interstellar spectrum of sonic ammunition.
With three EPs on Moda Music (the last Pandemonium EP, released on Dec. 6) and remixes for Fenech Soler, Crookers, Renee Fleming, Human Life & We Have Band already under his utility-belt, his credentials have seen him take-off all over the World, playing everything from 500 capacity clubs to 20,000 capacity festivals. With Moda club-nights kicking off all over Europe, the Moda Music label going from strength-to-strength, and now Tom’s own productions heading into orbit.
Tom Staar & Friends is the next chapter — a collaborations EP with Style Of Eye, Tony Senghore, Herve and Sam Obernik. Word on the flight deck is that this is shaping up to be completely and utterly off the chart!
