Beelicious 2012 Summer Edition, August 20th w/ NIC SARNO and HIS MAJESTY ANDRE

Dopo il successo ottenuto l’anno scorso dal “Beelicious on the Beach”, quest’anno Alghero ospiterà la Summer Edition del party (in collaborazione con Old.Av Eventi Culturali e SiLive TiMusic) lunedì 20 Agosto.
La location sarà l’Embarcadero Live Club, situato poco fuori città: uno dei club più belli della zona, una terrazza sul mare davvero meravigliosa, dove potremo far festa fino alle prime luci dell’alba!
In line up Nic Sarno e His Majesty Andre: basta un giretto su Google o Youtube per scoprire la grandezza di questi artisti. Ad accompagnarli Elisa Bee e John Tessitore.
L’evento sarà supportato dal brand 55DSL, oltre che dai locali algheresi Miramare Music Pub e Poco Loco.

After the success achieved last year by “Beelicious on the Beach”, this year Alghero will host the Summer Edition of the party (in collaboration with Old.Av Eventi Culturali and SiLive TiMusic) on Monday, August 20th.
The location will be Embarcadero Live Club, located just outside the city: one of the finest clubs in the area, a truly wonderful terrace overlooking the sea, where we can party until dawn!
Nic Sarno and His Majesty Andre are going to play for us: it takes just a look on Google or Youtube to discover the greatness of these artists. With them Elisa Bee and John Tessitore.
The event will be supported by the brand 55DSL, plus the local Miramare Music Pub and Poco Loco.

Beelicious non si ferma neanche d’estate e di fronte alle meravigliose locations offerte dalla Sardegna è stato davvero impossibile stare con le mani in mano.
Il 9 Agosto è la data da ricordare: location esclusiva sul mare, temperatura ottimale, panorama che lascia senza fiato. Il tutto condito dalla musica di Elisa Bee e di uno special guest d’eccezione come His Majesty Andre.
Dalle 21 a notte fonda la spiaggia delle Bombarde di Alghero si riempirà di good vibes con l’unico party Beelicious della stagione. E l’ingresso è totalmente free!

Tutto sul nuovo EP di His Majesty Andre e qualche curiosità personale: tutto ciò solo nell’intervista in esclusiva per Beelicious!
1— Il nuovo Ep sta per uscire e le sei tanto attese tracce saranno presto alla nostra portata. Sono tante le cose che ci incuriosiscono al riguardo: perchè “The Battle of the Spurs”? E qual’è la connessione con le carte da gioco?
Battle of the Spurs è il nome di una battaglia condotta dall’esercito di Enrico VIII contro l’esercito francese nel 1513. Fondamentalmente ho scelto questo titolo ironicamente, perché parte della ispirazione parte dall’house francese fine ’90 inizio 2000 ma cerco di mimetizzarmi fra gli artisti inglesi. Se poi contiamo che nella battaglia presero parte anche gli italiani.. siamo a cavallo!
La connessione con le carte da gioco non è molto diretta, ho semplicemente pensato ad un campo di battaglia più divertente rispetto a quelli reali. Da qualche tempo, inoltre, sono affascinato non tanto dai giochi delle carte quanto in più dalle carte stesse come oggetto, sia da usare che da ammirare: alcune illustrazioni sono meravigliose.
2— Track-by-track dell’EP.
Diamonds è il pezzo che apre Battle of the Spurs. È un loop di fiati e archi, spezzato di tanto in tanto da un vocal che ne segue il giro, che difficilmente non rimane in testa. La preferita da Brodinski in persona.
Hearts è la traccia più “ascoltabile” al di fuori del club. Non che le altre non lo siano, ma questa può tenervi compagnia anche quando non siete propensi alla festa!
Spades è ormai già ben nota grazie al mix dei Duck Sauce per Mixmag, è nata per gioco, nel tentativo di emulare i vecchi pezzi sample-house stile Dance Mania. Non pensavo potesse essere così divertente fino a quando non mi scrisse Laidback Luke invitandomi a vedere un youtube mentre lui stesso la suonava.
Clubs è la più club. Eheh!
Gaff card evoca le carte utilizzate dai prestigiatori per fare i trucchi. Molto più di un joker, quindi, per ribaltare il dancefloor.
BBQ Sauce è l’unico pezzo il cui nome non c’entra assolutamente nulla, a meno che non stiate giocando a carte nel bel mezzo di un barbecue. Ho dovuto, e voluto, inserirla comunque in questo EP, senza cambiarne il nome, perché grazie a Jaymo & Andy George, che l’hanno suonata durante una puntata live di Annie Mac a Newcastle, la gente non ha smesso di richiederla e stava diventando una sorta di traccia fantasma, della quale nessuno conosceva più dei 2 minuti di bozza suonati “abusivamente” in radio. Ricordate: non andate ad un barbeque se non mangiate carne.
3— Tutti coloro che ti seguono non possono non notare il tuo amore folle per l’Inghilterra: quando e perchè è nato?
È nato da quando ho memoria. Ho sempre notato che tutto ciò che mi piaceva era direttamente, o quasi, collegato con l’Inghilterra. Londra è da sempre una se non la città trend-setter. Nella musica sono sempre un beat avanti, sanno riconoscere, creare e supportare al meglio i loro “Made in Britain”.
4— E in Italia invece? Cosa pensi della situazione che esiste nel tuo ambiente?
Abbiamo di recente avuto un’ondata di talento che molto tempo non si vedeva in Italia e che ha dato una forte e importante rinfrescata alla musica dance, nel senso ampio del termine, e non solo.
Il rovescio della medaglia è che con molti occhi puntati addosso, e per mille fattori che raccontare qui sarebbe forse abusare dello spazio a mia disposizione per rispondere, si è perso il senso di critica e auto-critica. In poche parole: ottima esportazione ma non significa che tutti gli italiani siamo capaci di fare musica. Io, analogamente, non so fare la pizza.
5— Hai fatto tante date in giro per il mondo. Quali sono state le più memorabili?
Di recente ho suonato per la prima volta in Giappone ed è stata bello sentire il calore di persone che hanno una cultura musicale nettamente differente.
Anche l’Australia fa effetto: a pensarci bene ti rendi conto di essere dall’altra parte del mondo e c’è chi viene a congratularsi per le produzioni e il DJ set. Impensabile quando da ragazzino cominci a mixare, fuori tempo, nella cameretta da letto.
Quella che ricordo sempre con più piacere, e una sana dose di brividi positivi, è stata il Pukkelpop, il primo grande festival al quale abbia mai suonato. Una “boiler room” stipata di gente già alle 1230 del pomeriggio e migliaia di ragazze e ragazzi che ballano, sudano e reagiscono ad ogni singolo beat e gesto.
6— Quali sono gli artisti che segui maggiormente e con i quali magari ti interesserebbe anche collaborare?
In questo periodo sto ascoltando Totally Enormous Exctint Dinosaurs, Tom Staar e Keith & Supabeatz. Credo che tutti e quattro siano fra i più talentuosi producer del momento.
Ai featuring non penso spesso, credo siano cose che debbano nascere spontaneamente, indipendentemente dalla stima nei confronti di un altro producer. C’è bisogno della scintilla e di capire il livello di compatibilità musicale e produttiva.

1— Your new EP is about to be released and the six tracks in it will be soon in our hands. Why did you called it “Battle of the Spurs”? And which is the connection with playing cards?
Battle of the Spurs is the name of a battle fought by Henry VIII army against French army in 1513. I chose this title ironically because part of my inspiration comes from the French house of the end of nineties but I always try to camouflage myself between English artists. In the battle fought the Italians too!
The connection with playing cards is not so direct, I simply thought of a different and funny battle. Plus, I love playing cards as objects, I like to use them both to play and admire them: some of the illustrations on their tops are amazing.
2— Your EP Track-by-track.
Diamonds is the opening track of Battle of the Spurs. It’s a brass and strings loop,broken from time to time with a vocal that follows the same melody, which hardly doesn’t stick to your head. The one favourite by Brodinski himself.
Hearts it’s the one you can easily listen to even out of the club. I don’t mean that the other are not, but you can enjoy this one even when not keen to party!
Spades is already known thanks to the mixed cd by Duck Sauce for Mixmag, it came out just playing, trying to emulate those old sample-based house like Dance Mania. I couldn’t think it was so fun until Laidback Luke wrote me linking a youtube video with himself playing the track.
Clubs is the most clubby. Eheh!
Gaff card recalls the cards used by magicians and illusionists to do tricks. More than a joker, than, to overturn the dancefloor.
BBQ sauce it’s the only track with its name not related to playing cards at all, unless you’re actually playing with cards during a barbecue party. I had, and wanted, to put this track anyway in this EP, without changing the name, as thanks to Jaymo & Andy George, who played it during a live show of Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 programin Newcastle, people never stopped to ask me about it. It was starting to become as a ghost track, nobody knew more than those couple of minutes from the demo played “illegally” on the radio show. And remember: don’t go to a barbecue if you don’t eat meat.
3— Everyone that follows you can’t ignore your love for England: when did it born?
It born since I have memory. I always noticed that everything I liked was directly, or next to, connected to England. London has been since ever one, if not the, trend-setter city. In music they’re always a beat ahead, they can recognize, create and support best their “Made in Britain”.
4— What about Italy instead? What do you think of the situation around you?
We recently had a big wave of talent, unseen for a lot of time in Italy, that gave a strength and important refreshing to dance music, in its wide meaning of the term, and not only.
The downside is that with all those eyes on, and thousands more things I won’t explain here to avoid abusing the space for this interview, lot of people lost sense of critique and auto-critique. In less words: great exporting but it doesn’t mean that all Italians can do music. Similarly, I am not good at doing pizza.
5— You had lots of gigs all around the world. Which are the most memorable?
Recently I played for the first time in Japan and it was nice to feel people’s warmth with a music culture dramatically different.
Even Australia has also a strange effect on me: thinking about that you realize you’re on the other side of the world and there’s people coming to you greeting for productions and DJ set. Unimmaginable when as a kid you start mixing, not beatmaching, in your bedroom.
The one that I pleasantly remember the most, with a bunch of positive thrills, has been Pukkelpop, my first big festival I’ve ever played at. A “boiler room” packed with people, already at 1230 pm and thousands of girls and boys dancing, sweating and reacting to every single beat and gesture.
6— Who are the artists you are following the most and who would you like to collaborate with?
In this period I’m listening to Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Tom Staar and Keith & Supabeatz. I think all four of them are the most talented producers at the moment.
I’m not thinking too much at featurings, I think these are things must born spontaneously, independently from respect of another producer. You need the spark and understand the level of both musical and productive compatibility.

Terzo appuntamento per Beelicious, tre guests d’eccezione per voi, tre le parole d’ordine: made in Italy! E’ la volta di tre produttori italiani di nascita, ma internazionali di fama: stiamo parlando di His Majesty Andre, Lazy Ants e Symone! In attesa della grande serata, Beelicious vi aiuterà a conoscerli meglio attraverso le loro stesse parole, opere e produzioni. Ma sentiamo un pò cosa dicono di loro in giro per il mondo.
Sono talmente tante le cose da dire su His Majesty Andre che diventa davvero difficile capire da dove iniziare. Rivelatosi al mondo nel 2008 con la hit “Peep Thong”, ormai pezzo cult che tutti noi frequentatori assidui di club abbiamo più di una volta sentito e ballato allo sfinimento, His Majesty Andre continua incessantemente a sfornare pezzi e remix che rivelano uno stile sempre azzeccato e ormai inconfondibile, supportato anche da radio importanti come la BBC Radio1 inglese, la TCY giapponese e la francese FG Radio.
Tra i suoi remix più celebri quelli per Autokratz, Burns, Congorock, Kid Glove, Steve Aoki & Armand Van Helden, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly e Voodoo Chilli; nel futuro prossimo ci delizierà con remix per Shinici Osawa & Supabeatz, Roy Davis Jr. & Bear Who? e Benny Benassi.
Tra una data e l’altra in giro per il mondo, dall’Australia all’Europa passando per il Giappone, ha avuto il tempo di lavorare al suo nuovo EP “The Battle of the Spurs”, in uscita il 7 febbraio 2011 sulla celeberrima etichetta inglese di mr. Hervè Cheap Thrills. Unica occasione a Milano per festeggiare l’uscita di questa nuova raccolta di inediti sarà proprio Beelicious, che accoglierà sua Maestà per un release party ad hoc!
Chi meglio di Lazy Ants e Symone poteva dare supporto? I due, infatti, saranno tra i remixers ufficiali dei pezzi contenuti in “Battle of the Spurs”!
Lazy Ants aka Filippo Fiorini è un DJ e producer nato a Fiuggi, ma romano d’adozione. Nel 2000, appena ventenne, si trasferisce nella capitale ed inizia il suo percorso di produttore, attirando l’attenzione di blog come Discobelle e Big Stereo, che pubblicano i suoi bootleg.
La carriera da DJ prende piede qualche anno più avanti attraverso la collaborazione con la crew di Deepsession, che lo lancia nel panorama delle serate romane e non solo.
Anche Filippo coi remix non scherza: Steed Lords, Crookers, Act yo Age, Larry Tee, Lauren Flax, Congorock featuring Blatta&Inesha e Kubo sono tra gli artisti che hanno messo nelle sue mani i propri pezzi per vederli trasformati in vere e proprie bombe da dancefloor. Non solo electro, ma anche hiphop per il nostro Lazy, che nel 2010 produce insieme a Big Fish l’album “Fragile” per il rapper Nesli.
Attualmente collabora con Nic Sarno e Dargen D’amico (Macrobiotics), con gli australiani Acid Jacks, il francese Costello e la cantante/DJ americana Roxy Cottontail. Programmi per il futuro: è in uscita un pezzo sull’etichetta MixMash di Laidback Luke, due tracce per la compilation della Southern Fried nonché il pezzo “Carcola” prodotto con His Majesty Andre, che verrà inserito all’interno del nuovo progetto dei Crookers chiamato “Dr. Gonzo” (al quale parteciperanno producers del calibro di Brodinsky, Switch, Douster, Savage Skulls).
Remix futuri lo porteranno a collaborare con Junior Sanchez & Felix da Housecat, Wax Motif per Exploited/Ministry of Sound (Australia), dj Birdee e, appunto, His Majesty Andre.
Ed eccoci arrivati a Symone, giovane talento emergente nel panorama internazionale. Il background hiphop, la ricerca di un tocco unico e l’influenza forte della world e black music definiscono nettamente il suo stile creativo, incorniciato dall’uso di samples, ritmiche trascinanti e groove energico.
Il suo EP di debutto, “Runnin”, è uscito a fine 2010 sull’etichetta americana di Jfk dei Mstrkrft Teenage Riot Records: un inizio davvero col botto! La traccia che da il titolo all’EP vede la collaborazione con l’MC italo-monzabicano Kwality, cantante del gruppo torinese Drum&Bass LNRipley; il pezzo è stato incluso nell’essential mix per BBC Radio1 di Wolfgang Gartner, è stato suonato sul programma radio “Babylon” su Radio2, è ora primo nella classifica di 105 Club Nation e ha ricevuto un supporto fortissimo da pionieri del dancefloor come Congorock, Jfk, Drop The Lime, Blatte&Inesha e i nostri Keith&Supabeatz, anche se l’elenco sarebbe davvero infinito!
Un Beelicious assolutamente imperdibile, con tre DJ/producers da leccarsi i baffi.

It’s the time of three Italian producers internationally known: we’re talking of His Majesty Andre, Lazy Ants and Symone! Waiting for the big party, Beelicious will help you know them better thru their own words, works and productions. But let’s hear what is being said all around the world about them.
There are so many things to say on His Majesty Andre that becomes really hard to understand where to begin. Revealed to the world back in 2008 with the hit “Peep Thong”, an anthem who everyone of us clubbers heard more than once and danced to death, His Majety Andre continues incessantly producing tracks and remixes which reveal an specific style, supported by important radios like BBC Radio 1, Japanese TCY and French FG Radio.
Some of his famous remixes are Autokratz, Burns, Congorock, Kid Glove, Steve Aoki & Armand Van Helden, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly and VooDoo Chilli; upcoming we’ll be delighted with more remixes for Shinichi Osawa & Supabeatz, Roy Davis Jr. & Bear Who? e Benny Benassi.
Between a gig and another around the world, from Australia to Europe thru Japan, he found the time to work to his new EP “Battle of the Spurs”, released on 7th February 2011 on English label Cheap Thrills owned by Mr. Hervé. Only chance in Milan to celebrate the release of this collection of unpublished will be Beelicious, which will welcome His Majesty for a proper release party!
Who better than Lazy Ants and Symone would support him? They will be in fact two of the official remixers for the “Battle of the Spurs” tracks!
Lazy Ants aka Filippo Fiorini is a DJ and producer born in Fiuggi, but adopted roman. In 2000, just twenty, he moves to Rome and starts his path as a producer, catching the attention of blogs such Discobelle and Big Stereo, which posts some of his bootlegs.
His DJ career starts some year later after a collaboration with Deepsession crew, who send him to the night life of Rome and not only. Filippo doesn’t jokes with remixes too: Steed Lords, Crookers, Act Yo Age, Larry Tee, Lauren Flax, Congorock ft. Blatta & Inesha and Kubo are some of the artists with whom he worked. Not just electro, but also hiphop for our Lazy who in 2010 produces with Big Fish “Fragile”, the album of Italian rapper Nesli.
Nowadays Filippo works with Nic Sarno and Dargen D’amico (Macrobiotics), with Australian Acid Kids, French Costello and American singer/DJ Roxy Cottontail. His future will provide a release on Laidack Luke’s label MixMash, a couple of tracks for Southern Fried and “Carcola”, produced with His Majesty Andre, which will be included into new Crookers’ project “Dr. Gonzo” (on which will work artists like Brodinski, Switch, Douster, and Savage Skulls).

Here we are with Symone, young emerging talent from international panorama. His hiphop background, the research of unique touch and a strong influence from world and black music define tidly his creative style, framed by the use of samples, shaking drums and energic grooves.
His debut EP, “Runnin”, has been released in the end of 2010 on American label Teenage Riot Records of JFK from MSTRKRFT: an explosive start! The main track has a featuring with Italian-Mozambican MC Kwality, singer of Drum’n'Bass project LNRipley from Torino; his tracks has been included on Wolfgang Gartner’s Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 and has been played several times on Radio2RAI “Babylon”, receiving a huge support from pioneers of the dancefloor like Congorock, JFK, Drop the Lime, Blatta & Inesha and our Keith&Supabeatz, even if the list would be quite longer!
